Elior chef Edward Zammit has cooked up a storm in the kitchen winning the South East Regional Selection of the NACC Care Cook of the Year competition.

Edward – one of five semi finalists who were competing in the regional heat – wowed judges with a menu of Ballantine of Chicken served with Potato Cake followed by Chocolate Fondant with Caramel Sauce.  He will now go on to compete in the national final this July.

The competition recognises excellence in care catering and is organized by the National Association of Care Catering (NACC). It was open to all care sector caterers, who were invited to produce a menu suitable for a designated care sector client group.

Edward took up the challenge of creating a recipe for a two-course meal, which had to demonstrate imaginative use of ingredients, cost less than £1.35 a head and meet NACC nutritional criteria as well as passing a taste test.

Learning of his win, Edward said: “I am thrilled to have won the title of South East Care Cook of the Year, and look forward to representing the region at the National finals in July.”
