MINI GIANT

Until now, healthy eating programmes for primary and junior schools have focussed on dressing up caterers' adult focussed healthy eating programmes. This works well for older pupils, but can be lost on primary school children. Conscious of this, Elior UK has developed a programme specifically for those under thirteen.

The programme, is named MiniGiant, it focuses on involving the pupils - and teachers - in a number of interactive ways. The project was designed to give a fuller understanding of food, why it tastes the way it does, where it comes from and how it affects the way we grow. It's a first step in gastronomy. Young children have enquiring minds and if we can encourage them early on to be interested in what they eat, then we will set them up to develop broader and more sophisticated tastes and a true appreciation of good food as they grow.

The six MiniGiant modules are:

  • Tickle your tongue with taste
  • Energy makes the world go round
  • How strong are you?
  • Fats flavour food
  • Water = Life
  • Shine with fruit and vegetables
