Meeting the special needs of our customers…
Elior recognise every resident as an individual. Our teams understand the challenges our customers face, are trained in how to communicate with people suffering from various levels of dementia and have the specialist solutions to deliver the bespoke service that is required.
At Chestnut Lodge we have introduced Elior’s Provisionplan, our unique offer incorporating three different elements: the food offer, visual communication aids and training and support.
The Foodbox has been developed as part of the Provision Plan concept. Resident-specific boxes of easy to eat finger foods, including ice lollies (a firm favourite with residents) and smoothies. The Foodbox is available to residents 24 hours a day to ensure they can eat when they want – they are not tied to conventional meal times. Elior and Viridian use this framework to monitor what people eat and a record is held to ensure that relatives and carers are aware of their dietary intake.
We also understand the importance of sensory aids and the build up to meal times in preparing residents with the thought of food. At Chestnut Lodge we have introduced pup dispensers that trigger tempting food aromas shortly before food is served, such as the smell of freshly baked bread or apple pie.
Great food for all our residents…
We have introduced texture-modified food to residents who suffer dysphagia. Using a specialist food thickener, hot and cold pureed foods take on height and texture and look aesthetically pleasing – pureed lamb cutlets look and taste like lamb cutlets - very different from traditional unappetising methods of serving pureed foods. The food takes on a constant consistency, gives a superior mouth-feel and a more palatable texture making meal times more enjoyable for dysphagia sufferers.
Getting to know our customers…
Chestnut Lodge is an ideal example of where Elior has introduced a nominated ‘food champion’. Our food champion spends fifteen minutes of every day on each street
in the home and chats with residents ensuring that not only are they happy with the food, but that it meets Elior’s exacting standards in every aspect of food service delivery. This is a great way of not only assuring quality, but also it gives residents the important opportunity to talk to us directly every day.
