Because we believe our success depends on acting responsibly and ethically towards all our stakeholders we have made sustainable development an integral part of our business strategy and the management of our operations. We aim to enhance and reinforce our relationships with our stakeholders by making the following commitments

  • providing nutritionally balanced menus, using the best ingredients and cooking methods to contribute to a healthy lifestyle;
  • becoming an employer of choice, offering opportunities for all our people developing them through the best training in our industry, and following a farsighted diversity programme;
  • developing partnerships with suppliers who provide the finest ingredients, uphold the highest standards in Health & Safety, food hygiene and sustainable and ethical practices;
  • adopting environmentally friendly practices throughout our operations to address waste reduction, energy and water efficiency and food distribution;
  • contributing to charities that help improve opportunities in our industry for young people from all backgrounds and supporting healthy eating campaigns.

As a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, the Elior Group has also pledged to uphold ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption across the entire business.

 

Responsible sourcing

Supplier relationships and sustainable procurement

A vital factor in achieving consistently reliable performance in our service is the quality of relationships we build with our suppliers and the ability to develop with them long term business partnerships. Our suppliers undergo a vetting process which is designed to ensure  high standards of quality, health and safety and food safety are met. In addition, all suppliers must adhere to our supplier’s code of practice which covers the key principles of the UN Global Compact. We are committed to source food regionally and locally wherever possible and we give preference to fresh ingredients in season. Both measures enable us to make the most of British food and also minimise the energy used in its production, transport and refrigeration.

A monthly fresh produce bulletin is communicated to all our chefs and they are advised to make the most of seasonal fruit and vegetable, underused cuts of meat and less popular fish.

Sustainable food procurement is imperative to our business - it is simply what our clients and customers expect us to do..We offer ingredients that come from sources where guarantees are given to uphold high management standards in critical sustainability issues.

Red Tractor accredited produce are provided from Elior suppliers. This mark not only gives reassurance on the origin of the produce but also guarantees that minimum standards of food safety, environmental protection and animal welfare are met.

We are working closely with our national source for fish to ensure that all the fish we serve come from well managed, sustainable stocks or farms. We only serve fish from the green rated Fish to Eat list prepared by the Marine Conservation Society. Our sustainable fish policy is revised regularly to include up to date advice on vulnerable fish species.

As signatories to the Public Health Responsibility Deal Elior has pledged to take action to support this important initiative, which is designed to help people achieve a healthier diet, increase their levels of physical activity, drink sensibly and understand the health risks of their lifestyle choices.
